My name is Mon Sokeo (ម៉ុន សុកែវ). I was born in Dach Proat Village, Bavel Commune, Bavel District, Battambang Province. I am 26 years old and a Year 3 university student majoring in International Relations at Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia. I speak 2 languages: Khmer and English — and I am studying French as well. I am delighted to be selected by Newsroom Cambodia because it’s a great opportunity to learn and challenge myself as a real independent journalist. Journalism is one of my career goals. I want to be a professional journalist. I think Newsroom Cambodia is a good place to develop journalism skills because I will learn from professional journalism trainers. I can learn how journalism has changed the world — as Owen Hu from Youth Insights wrote, “from exposing government corruption around the globe to giving a voice to the voiceless, journalism has been a crucial factor in connecting, informing, and inspiring an oftentimes ignorant world to move to a better future.” That’s why I want to be a journalist.
